Tobradex ophthalmic suspension - (5ml)
CA$31.88
This ophthalmic suspension (commonly known by the brand name Tobradex) is a combination of a potent aminoglycoside Antibiotic (Tobramycin) and a strong Corticosteroid (Dexamethasone). While originally approved for human use, it is frequently used by veterinarians on an extra-label basis for dogs, cats, and horses. The suspension form is often preferred for its ease of application and its ability to distribute the medication evenly across the surface of the eye to combat both bacterial infection and significant inflammation simultaneously.
Active Ingredients: Tobramycin (0.3%) and Dexamethasone (0.1%).
Approved Species (Original Licensing): Human.
Common Veterinary Species: Dog, Cat, and Horse (used extra-label).
Uses: Treatment of bacterial eye infections accompanied by significant swelling, redness, or inflammatory ocular conditions.
Form: Ophthalmic Suspension (preserved with benzalkonium chloride 0.01%).
Route of Administration: Ophthalmic (Eye Drops).
Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Suspension is a prescription-only medication. A valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian is required for purchase.
Critical Safety Warning: Because this medication contains a corticosteroid, it must never be used in an eye that has a corneal ulcer or scratch. Dexamethasone prevents the cornea from healing and can lead to rapid "melting" of the cornea or eye rupture. A veterinarian must confirm the eye surface is intact using a fluorescein stain test before this medication is prescribed or refilled. It should also be used with caution in cats, as they are more susceptible to certain viral flare-ups (like Feline Herpesvirus) when using topical steroids.
